Located in the northeast of the country, more than 1000 km of
Niamey, Fachi in the Agadez Region consists of 2,000 inhabitants
and doesn’t have any school.
T.S. School is a proposal to contribute to local development with
the aim to create educational facility, but multifunctional building
such as community places or meeting. With environmental, social
and sustainable approach, the project is inspired by traditional
African architecture: the Case of Africa. Free, curved form, allows
integration school into desert environment. Local materials such as
straw, clay, earth, and wood are mainly used. School’s thermal
comfort is procured by creating the freshness in this environment.
The principle of Musgum Case (northern Cameroon) to create a
natural temperature difference with a voluntary exchange of heat
between hot air and cold air inside the Structure was applied.
Wooden bearing structure and light polycarbonate filter help to
diffuse natural light, retain rain water and dust particles. Straw
envelope above the polycarbonate is used to filter the sunlight; it is
solar screen. Clay is principally used. The project will create a space
for reflection, sharing and exchange. Children interact with the area
whether it’s; studying, running, walking, leaning or sitting, playing…
helping to inspire.
